If you´re looking for a simple dish that is loaded with flavors and done in under 30 minutes, this Pan Seared Tofu with Black Garlic Sauce is the answer. This dish has an insane amount of flavor, it´s beyond easy to make and on the table in a jiffy. Perfect for a busy weeknight or for a relaxed weekend lunch.
For this recipe I used a block of organic extra-firm tofu. When you´re searing tofu you want to use extra-firm, that way it get´s a nice crust and won´t break apart. The secret to cooking with tofu is to make sure that you pat it down with paper towels to remove any of the excess water. This is what gives tofu a great texture.
What really flavors this dish is the black garlic and a good extra virgin olive oil. For this recipe I used an extra virgin olive oil from 1836 A Texas Olive Oil Company. This extra virgin olive oil has an insanely amazing flavor to it, this is some TOP-SHELF stuff folks. Get a bottel or two, you will be beyond impressed.
TIPS & TRICKS to make this recipe: Make sure you use extra-firm tofu that way it doesn´t fall apart when you´re searing it. If you can get it organic even better. Add as much black garlic as you want, but I find that 6 to 7 cloves is enough to flavor this dish. Use a good quality extra virgin olive oil, as this is what flavors the tofu when you´re searing it.
Key Ingredients & Cookware I used in this Recipe:

Ingredients
- 114 ounce block organic extra firm tofu400 grams
- 2tbspextra virgin olive oil
- 1/2small onion
- 2clovesgarlic
- 6clovesblack garlic
- 1/3cupwhite wine
- pinchsea salt
- pinchblack pepper
- handfulfreshly chopped chives
Instructions
Drain the tofu, cut it into two vertical fillets, pat completely dry with paper towels, changing them at least once, season the tofu generously with sea salt and freshly cracked black pepper on both sides
Finely dice 1/2 of a small onion, finely mince 2 cloves of garlic and finely chop up 6 cloves of black garlic
Heat a fry pan with a medium-high heat and add in 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil, after heating the oil for 1 minute add the tofu steaks, using a spatula push down on each tofu steak for 30 seconds, after 3 minutes flip the tofu steaks (mine where 3/4 inch thick) and again push down on each fillet for 30 seconds, after a total cooking time of 6 minutes remove the tofu steaks from the pan
Using the same pan with the same heat add in the diced onions and mix around with the olive oil, after 1 minute add in the minced garlic and black garlic, mix everything together, 30 seconds later add in a generous 1/3 cup of white wine, season with sea salt and freshly cracked black pepper, mix it all together, after 90 seconds the sauce should be nice and thick, remove from the heat
Evenly divide the black garlic sauce on top of each tofu steak, sprinkle a generous portion of freshly chopped chives on top and serve at once, enjoy!
